CALL FOR DANCERS!!! Be part of Dreamwalker Dance Company's Welcome Gesture as we welcome Little Amal to Tkaronto as part of the Luminato Festival!

Welcome Gestures Dance Ambassador roles and responsibilities We will be greeting Amal as she arrives in Tkaronto/Toronto on Wednesday June 7th from 5pm-7:30pm. We are looking for positive role models who are comfortable greeting and moving with the general public in open spaces. Dancers will work directly with Dreamwalker Dance Conscious Bodies Core Ensemble, a collective of diverse artists honouring the stories and lived experiences of different cultures, Lands and People through our work. See examples of previous versions of THE WELCOME GESTURE here. And info about our day to WALK WITH AMAL here. How will you participate? Welcome Gestures Dance Ambassadors will attend one general information session (4 dates offered below). This will be followed by an online session specifically for Dance Ambassadors (date TBD) and remote preparation, (all Dance Ambassadors will access instructional videos online to learn and practice site specific Welcome Gestures). Groupings of Friends of Amal will gather at 5 different outdoor locations, and with support from Dance Ambassadors, everyone will move in unison to greet Amal as she journeys from Union Station to Nathan Phillips Square. When will learning of Gestures take place? Learning will be independently and online – Ambassadors will be sent links to instructional videos so learning and practice of the Gestures can be done independently. It is our intent that everyone feels invited, wanted, and welcomed to participate in our events and activities. We continue to do the work to listen, learn, unlearn, and relearn in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, in response to the Black Lives Matter Movement, and in recognition of all past and present atrocities, persecution and mistreatment of people based on their ethnicity, culture, place of origin, race, ancestry, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical appearance, and/or (dis)ability.   We stand in solidarity with all who are facing or have faced persecution or discrimination, and are working to create a supportive, safe and equitable world.

We are honoured to live, work and create in Toronto/Tkaronto on Dish With One Spoon Indigenous Territory and acknowledge the Land as Traditional Territory of many Nations including the Haudenosaunee, the Anishnabeg, the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Chippewa, and the Wendat Peoples.
