Andrea Nann

Artistic Director

Andrea Nann is the Founding Artistic Director of Dreamwalker Dance Company. Originally from Vancouver, she is a Toronto-based contemporary dance artist and creator of The Whole Shebang, a multi- disciplinary arts performance.

Andrea creates works for the stage, film, and outdoor sites. Her work investigates contemporary approaches to creation that interpret human experiences through collaboration with artists and producers from all artistic disciplines. She is currently a visiting artist at River Run Centre (Guelph), Burlington Centre for the Arts, and Brock Centre for the Arts (St. Catharines). She was a Resident Artist of Soulpepper Theatre Company (2009-2014), Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre (2008-2009), and was the Iris Garland Visiting Choreographer at Simon Fraser University (2012).

Over the course of her 27-year career in contemporary and modern dance, Andrea has established core values and skill-building strategies that are essential to her work. Inclusiveness, transmission, synchrony and equanimity are essential to her artistic vision and she currently shares these values and strategies through three interrelated, collaborative creative processes called The Conscious Body, Actions of Compassion and The Shebang Process. With support from a generous Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant, Dreamwalker is now enlivening these processes through four multi-year community-based interdisciplinary creative engagement projects collectively called The Ontario Shebang.

A graduate of York University’s Department of Fine Arts in 1988, Andrea was a full-time member of the Danny Grossman Dance Company for fifteen years from 1988-2003 where she created, performed and taught major roles from the works of Mr. Grossman and guest choreographers. She has received four Dora Mavor Moore Award Nominations in Outstanding Performance and, in 2011, she and Brendan Wyatt received a Dora Mavor Moore Award Nomination in Outstanding Choreography for Beside Each Other. Andrea has appeared as a guest artist with Canadian touring companies Peggy Baker Dance Projects, Co. Erasga, Tribal Crackling Wind, Astrid Dance, Volcano Theatre, Proartedanza and Modern Times Stage Company.
